Hot August Nights Preparations in Full Swing

Updated: May 8, 2021

Thousands of classic cars will be making their way back to Northern Nevada in August. The event was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

"As of right now, we're going one hundred percent strong," said Hot August Nights Executive Director Alan Tom. "The city needs it, the county needs it, and with everything being postponed and not having any events last year, it's going to be amazing thing to be able to bring this economic impact back to the city of Reno, the city of Sparks and Virginia City."

The Kick It Off Old School event in Virginia City is already sold out, but there's still plenty of space to register your car for the main event in Reno. So far, about 3,800 cars are signed up; they can take about 6,000. All the crowd favorite events will be back this year - everything from drag racing to cruising, and the same venues are going to be welcoming back these classic cars the first week in August.

"All of these participants, they've basically had their cars locked up in their garages for the whole year," Tom said. "So we're asking everyone to dust off their cars, get their engines revving, and it's going to be great for all the participants and for all the people that want to see the classic cars."
