Livermore Wins All-America City Award For 2021

It's official: Livermore is a winner of the 2021 All-America City Award.

Livermore was among 20 finalists and was the only California state in the running. In the end, it was among 10 winners picked for excelling in this year's theme: Building Equity and Resilience.

Cities gave presentations to an awards jury panel this week, according to the National Civic League, which runs the contest. Livermore highlighted its efforts to: battle vaping; improve youth mental health; create a working group on equity and inclusion; open a wellness center; address housing inequity and homelessness; and launch diverse clubs at public schools.

Livermore's application was filed in February by the city, Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District, Livermore Area Recreation and Park District and Las Positas College. "Each winner leveraged civic engagement, inclusiveness and innovation to successfully address challenges facing their communities," said Doug Linkhart, president of National Civic League, in a news release. "These communities serve as examples to others facing similar issues and provide hope that collaboration among community leaders, elected officials and concerned residents will help communities of all sizes tackle complex issues."
