Local High School Coaches Excited About CIF Approving Beach Volleyball

Starting in the spring of 2022, there will be CIF - California Interscholastic Federation - championships for girls beach volleyball.

The CIF Federated Council last week gave unanimous approval to the sport, which also is an official NCAA sport for women.

Portia Sherman of Goleta's Dos Pueblos High, who is considered one of the top junior beach volleyball players in the state. She is thrilled the sport is finally being recognized by the CIF.

“I am excited about the CIF’s decision to embrace beach volleyball as an official sport,” she said. “Beach volleyball has been a NCAA sport since 2015, and it makes sense for the CIF to align themselves in order to develop potential future college athletes."

Sherman, who has made a verbal commitment with the University of Hawai’i, will be a senior at DP when the first CIF championships take place.
